Students must hold a 4-year bachelor’s degree with at least a 7.5 CGPA or above in order to get admitted into public universities. Most courses in both technical and applied science fields last for 2 years.
If your CGPA doesn’t meet the requirements and is lower than 7.5, you can consider private universities with paid courses that last for 3 years.
Your IELTS band must be above 6 to 6.5.
Documents Required to submit to a German University
Once you have shortlisted your choices of courses at your preferred university, the next big step is to prepare the required documents to submit your application.
Marksheets – Similar to every other country you’ll require your academic marksheets. 10th and 12th grade marksheet, Bachelor’s marksheet both individual and consolidated, and Provisional certificate.
Letter of Recommendation– Typically you need 3 LORs for Germany admission – all three can be attained from your alma mater if you don’t have any work experience.
In case you are a working professional, the ratio will be divided into 2 Academic LOR and 1 Work LOR. Make sure you get the LORs on the letterhead with the signature, seal, and contact information of the person vouching for you.
Statement of Purpose – Drafting a good SOP is vital. Because it highlights how your background makes you a strong candidate for the course you are applying for.

Resume or CV : Lebenslauf which is German for Resume or CV. Most German universities consider it Europass or Tabular format, which is widely available on the internet for your reference. Ideally, keep them 1 or 2 pages.
Germany Specific Requirements
APS Certificate : APS (Akademische Prüfstelle) certificate is a mandatory document for applying to German universities for students from certain countries, including India, China, and Vietnam.
The German government wants to ensure that international students have valid and recognized qualifications before they start their academic journey in their country. It serves as a verification of your academic qualifications, ensuring that your degree and transcripts meet the standards required for university admission in Germany.
APS India is located in New Delhi. You can submit your documents either by post or in person, depending on the process. It might take 4 to 6 weeks maximum to get your hands on a APS document. The APS India website provides all the details on how to apply, the required documents, and the procedure for getting your APS certificate.
Blocked Account in a German bank : A German Blocked Account (Sperrkonto) is a type of bank account that international students, job seekers, or individuals planning to live in Germany need to open as part of their visa application process.it provides the proof that you have sufficient financial resources to support yourself during your stay in Germany.
For students in Germany, the minimum monthly amount required to be shown in the blocked account is around €11,208 for a full year. This includes covering living expenses like accommodation, food, transportation, and other essentials. It is roughly equivalent to 12 lakh INR which should be deposited in your blocked account and the amount will be released to you on a monthly basis.
VPD: VPD, or “Vorprüfungsdokumentation,” is required when applying through Uni-Assist service, which helps international students apply to German universities. The VPD verifies your past academic qualifications, like your high school diploma or university degree, to confirm that you meet the program’s entry requirements.
Apart from this, you would require your Passport – preferably a scanned copy, Proof of English proficiency – IELTS/TOEFL scores, and a Work experience letter (incase you are working professionally)
